Background

About Me

I am Dr. Aditya Pavan Kumar Kanteti, a Medical Oncologist with 7 years of specialised experience in oncology and 13 years in internal medicine.

My medical journey began at PGIMER, Chandigarh — one of India's most respected medical institutions — where I completed my MD in Internal Medicine. I then pursued my DM in Medical Oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, India's foremost cancer centre. These formative years of training under some of the country's finest oncologists shaped not just my clinical skills, but my philosophy of cancer care.

Over the years, I have come to believe that treating cancer means treating the whole person — not just the disease. Many of my patients live with other health conditions alongside their cancer, and managing both simultaneously is something I consider an essential part of my responsibility, not an afterthought.

I believe every patient deserves honesty. From the moment of diagnosis, I sit with patients and their families to discuss the nature of the disease, the available treatment options, what outcomes are realistically expected, and what the financial journey ahead looks like — openly and without ambiguity. There should be no surprises along the way.

I am committed to making the best available care accessible — tailoring treatment decisions to what is genuinely achievable for each patient's circumstances, without compromising on quality where it matters most.

Cancer treatment is rarely a short journey. It demands months, sometimes years, of sustained care. For patients in smaller cities and towns, accessing quality oncology care close to home — without the burden of repeated travel to distant centres — makes an enormous difference, not just medically but emotionally and financially. My practice aims to bridge that gap, bringing the standards I trained for at India's premier institutions to the region I serve.

Whether you are at the beginning of a diagnosis, in the middle of treatment, or navigating life as a survivor — I am here to walk that journey with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Medical Oncologist specialises in diagnosing and treating cancer using systemic therapies — chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy. You should see a Medical Oncologist as soon as a cancer diagnosis is suspected or confirmed, or if you have a strong family history that warrants a risk assessment. Early consultation often opens more treatment options.
Please bring all previous medical records, blood reports, imaging scans (CT, MRI, PET-CT), biopsy and pathology reports, and a list of current medications. If you've already consulted another doctor, bring those notes too. The more complete the picture, the more precisely we can plan your care from the very first visit.
Chemotherapy has improved enormously in the last decade. While side effects vary based on the drugs used, the cancer type, and the individual patient, many patients tolerate modern chemotherapy regimens quite well and continue their daily routines. We take side-effect management seriously — nausea, fatigue, and other symptoms can often be prevented or significantly reduced with the right supportive medications.
Chemotherapy works by attacking all rapidly dividing cells — including cancer cells, but also some healthy ones. Targeted therapy is more precise: it attacks specific molecular features present in certain cancer cells, which means fewer effects on healthy tissue. Not all cancers have targetable mutations, so molecular profiling (testing your tumour's genetics) is often done first to determine if targeted therapy is an option for you.
Many cancers are preventable. Avoiding tobacco (including smokeless tobacco), limiting alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, staying physically active, eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, protecting yourself from sun exposure, and getting vaccinated against HPV and Hepatitis B can significantly reduce your cancer risk. Regular screening — for cervical, breast, colorectal and other cancers — is equally important for catching problems early when they are most treatable.
Yes, absolutely. I see patients from across West Godavari district and the broader region of Andhra Pradesh. For patients travelling from farther away, we try to schedule investigations and follow-up appointments efficiently to minimise the number of trips required. Please use the contact form or reach out to Omega Bhimavaram Hospitals to plan your visit.
